Spring forward tonight: It’s Daylight Saving Time

9 03 2008

OTTAWA – The usual reminder to set your clocks ahead one hour takes on a new twist this year.

That’s because It’s a few weeks earlier than the traditional start of Daylight Saving Time. The change aligns Canada with the United States, which began last year to switch to Daylight Saving on the second Sunday in March instead of early April, hoping to save energy.

Early U.S. assessments, including two from the California Energy Commission, report little or no energy savings, but the new system is firmly in place across Canada and the U.S. Exceptions are provinces and states that opt out of the whole Daylight Saving system – only Saskatchewan in Canada.

Lavigne rocks Vancouver

9 03 2008

Despite having sold more than 30 million albums around the world by the age of 23, Avril Lavigne still seems to be unsure of her success.

She’s had nearly a dozen top 10 hits and she sold in the range of 12,000 tickets to her Friday night show at GM Place, but the pop punk princess was initially uneasy on the stage, looking like perhaps she didn’t really believe in what she was doing up there.

Lavigne’s most recent album, The Best Damn Thing, received only lukewarm reviews from the critics who bothered to listen to it. And she is regularly the target of hateful jabs from mean-spirited celeblogger Perez Hilton.
