Deer Hunting

Deer Hunting

Two hunters were dragging their dead deer back to their car. Another hunter approached pulling his along too.

“Hey, I don’t want to tell you how to do something … but I can tell you that it’s much easier if you drag the deer in the other direction. Then the antlers won’t dig into the ground.”

After the third hunter left, the two decided to try it.

A little while later one hunter said to the other, “You know, that guy was right. This is a lot easier!”

“Yeah, but we’re getting farther from the truck,” the other added.

RIM Finally Explains Why Your BlackBerry Failed This Week

14 02 2008

We now know why BlackBerry users went into temporary withdrawal earlier this week, after a three hour-plus outage on Monday that crippled the email feature of the ubiquitous machine. And it’s raising new questions about the reliability of the business must-have.

It appears Research in Motion, the company that makes the handheld, was attempting to upgrade the device so that it would have more storage capacity. But something went wrong in what the company called an otherwise “routine and ongoing effort” to improve the product.

Showtime for Heroes, Office, CSI

14 02 2008

The lights are back on at The Office, Heroes is coming out of mothballs, and CSI is ready to prod some corpses. TV Land is back in business.

With the writers’ strike a bitter memory, the folks at NBC and CBS are following the lead of rival ABC and announcing the return of their major series.

NBC will be out of the box quickly, with a new Saturday Night Live slated to air Feb. 23, featuring Tina Fey as guest host, while Juno’s Ellen Page will host the Mar. 1 outing. The long-running sketch-comedy series aims to produce six to eight episodes between now and May.

Docs differ on Leone assessment

14 02 2008

Convicted sex offender Carl Leone should live with his family and remain in the community – to get proper medical help and counselling – and not be locked away indefinitely in prison, a psychiatrist told the Windsor businessman’s dangerous offender hearing Wednesday.

The testimony of Dr. Paul Fedoroff, testifying for the defence, was in stark contrast to that of fellow forensic psychiatrist Dr. Philip Klassen, who gave evidence for the Crown on Monday. Both experts have made “hundreds” of sex offender court appearances, but each told Leone’s hearing they have never been involved in a similar case, nor could they draw on any similar case history to assist them in their assessments.

Bitove ups ante in bid to launch HDTV Networks

14 02 2008

John Bitove made a key concession Wednesday in his bid to create a new national television network, telling federal regulators that he will fund a small amount of local programming at each station after concerns were raised earlier this week.

Mr. Bitove, a satellite radio and fast-food franchise executive, is seeking permission to launch HDTV Networks Inc., a network of stations in eight cities that would broadcast in high-definition.

However, rival broadcasters and the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission both raised concerns that the network would not be funding local programming, while other Canadian broadcasters are required to produce between nine hours and 42 hours a week, depending on the station.
