Archbishop defends Sharia remarks

The Archbishop of Canterbury has defended his comments on Sharia law, following widespread criticism.

A statement on his website said that he “certainly did not call for its introduction as some kind of parallel jurisdiction to the civil law”.

However, at least two General Synod members have called for Dr Rowan Williams to resign following the row.

Anime exhibit part of VAG lineup

The Vancouver Art Gallery is breaking new ground in the world of art by organizing an exhibition on the world of comics and animated cartoons.

Called Krazy! The Delirious World Of Anime + Comics + Video Games + Art, the exhibition will look at a century of image-making in popular culture and explore the links between graphic novels and video games. Believed to be the first art exhibition of its kind, Krazy! will include examples of original sketches, notes, concept drawings and final production drawings, animation cells, and three-dimensional models.

Co-curators include industry innovators such as Art Spiegelman on graphic novels, Tim Johnson on animated cartoons, Will Wright on video games and Toshiya Ueno and Kiyoshi Kusumi on anime/manga. The exhibition runs from May 17 to Sept. 7.
